It’s Halloween, and Granville Street, outside the front doors of the BEST WESTERN PLUS Chateau Granville hotel in downtown Vancouver, becomes a haunt for ghosts and ghouls, witches and warlocks, as thousands of painted faces and costumed revellers parade up and down the street celebrating this annual event. It is a lot of fun, and this once a year celebration of the spirit world will create a memory not soon forgotten – if you dare to take part!

As well as the party along Granville   Street, Halloween in Vancouver offers something for everyone. The Stanley Park Ghost Train, which until October 31st, mixes fear and fun as it takes passengers through the dark forest of Stanley Park. This is a perfect event for young families, with this year’s theme being ‘Scary Fairy Tales

Another event that has become a favourite amongst locals is ‘Fright Nights at the PNE ‘. From October 17th to 31st, Vancouver’s Playland is transformed into a haunted amusement park complete with haunted houses, a rickety wooden roller coaster, spooky rides and roving bands of costumed actors guaranteed to scare everyone! Fright Nights is open evenings, October 17 to 31. This is truly a scary event, and is recommended for kids aged 12 and older.

Another Halloween tradition takes place in east Vancouver, when for one night only, on October 27, from 5 pm to 9 pm; you are invited to join in the festivities of the Parade of Lost Souls Secret Souls Walk . Dress in your scariest costume and delve into the pagan origins of Halloween. This celebration honours the dearly departed, as ghosts, skeleton brides and witches dance under the streetlights. A spectacular torch-lit parade weaves past the homes, streets and alleys of Commercial Drive. The journey ends as spirits awake to a grand finale featuring torch dancing and fireworks.
