On Sunday April 21, 2013, more than 40,000 runners will take to the streets of downtown Vancouver, only blocks away from the BEST WESTERN PLUS Chateau Granville Hotel, to participate in the 2013 Vancouver Sun Run.
Since its inception 1985, with the main purpose to promote the health benefits of running, The Vancouver Sun Run has been Canada’s largest 10K road race. In the Run’s initial year 3,200 runners participated. By 2012 the number had grown to an astonishing 48,904 runners taking part in this annual Vancouver tradition!
Participants include a range of runners from competitive athletes tuning up for the road race season, to recreational runners who enjoy the social atmosphere of the Vancouver Sun Run. Even strollers are welcome to participate in this popular community event!
Keeping the whole event running smoothly, the Vancouver Sun Run has an army of more than 3000 volunteers!
The Vancouver Sun Run 2013 will mark the 29th year for this event. While the Run is not a designated charity event, nearly $2 million in proceeds have been donated to important causes since 1985.
The Vancouver Sun Run 2013 will start on West Georgia St. in downtown Vancouver, at the intersection with Thurlow Street. The participants will head west through Stanley Park via Lagoon Drive, then along Beach Avenue in Vancouver’s West End. Continuing across the iconic Burrard Street bridge, runners will travel along the idyllic south shore of False Creek, until finally crossing the Cambie Street bridge on the way to the finish at BC Place Stadium. All along the scenic Sun Run course runners will be encouraged by music stations, and rehydrated by water posts.
