The Pacific National Exhibition is back for 2013! From Saturday August 17, until Labour Day Monday September 2, Hastings Park at the corner of Hastings and Renfrew streets will come alive with the laughter and exuberance from children of all ages, as Vancouver’s favourite annual event returns.
The PNE has been entertaining and informing audiences for generations. The first fair took place in 1910, when a primarily rural and agricultural population of a young Vancouver, was exposed to all the latest gadgetry of the day. As Vancouver has grown and evolved, so too has the PNE. Now the fair is primarily an entertainment event, while still retaining its agricultural heritage.
Generations of fair attendees from across British Columbia have booked the BEST WESTERN PLUS Chateau Granville hotel in downtown Vancouver as their PNE headquarters. And that makes sense, as we are an easy bus ride to the fairgrounds, a 20 drive to east Vancouver, or even a modest cab ride to the park! Plus, our spacious suites mean that there is room for the family!
Many a Vancouverite got their first job working at the PNE, and the annual fair remains forever etched in their memories.
Maybe it’s the fabulous Show Dogs that make up your favourite memories of the PNE. Maybe, it’s the neighbours around Hastings Park crowding their yards as discount parking lots that you most vividly remember. Perhaps it is the giant wooden roller coaster at Playland that is your favourite memory. Whatever your favourite memory may be, for many Vancouverites and British Columbians in general, a trip to the fall fair in Vancouver is a highlight of their summer. In fact, you would be hard-pressed to find a local who has not gone to the PNE at least once!
The fall fair at the PNE, a Vancouver tradition!
