Bringing Back 35 years of Classic!
Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver are celebrating their 35th year of “Bowl for Big Brothers Classic”!
In the Lower Mainland, one in four kids grows up without a father. As statistic shows, children raised in a one-parent family are at a higher risk of succumbing to social pressure, including drug and violence. By matching at-risk children with mentors, Big Brothers bring a positive influence in the children’s lives, helping them reach their full potential and heighten their self-esteem.
“Bowl for Big Brothers” is one of North America’s biggest fundraising event of its kind with over 250 participating teams in the lower mainland. It costs $1,500 to support a child-mentor match for one year. However, it has been shown that every dollar donated generates $18 in hard dollar returns to society. Last year, the campaign raised enough money to help 367 at-risk children in Great Vancouver; a fantastic achievement.
With 35 years behind the cause, Bowl for Big Brothers is taking a new approach and is looking back at past campaigns, memories and achievements, bringing the best of them for this year’s event. From ‘Fiesta’ to ‘Mardi Gras’ and last year’s ‘Back to the 80’s” Big Brother has seen it all; we can only wait to see what the “2014 Scotiabank Bowl for Big Brothers” will bring about!
For a 2nd consecutive year, the BEST WESTERN PLUS Chateau Granville Hotel & Suites & Conference Centre will be participating in the campaign, gathering a team of eager bowlers and enjoying a night of fun & camaraderie. Raising over $1100 for the cause, we had a terrific time last year, even having our Director Sales nominated for best costume as Mario Bros!
