Flowers are blooming; birds are chirping…spring has definitely arrived in Vancouver! Spring is one of my favourite seasons in the city. It’s just so refreshing to see Mother Nature waking up after a long winter sleep, and a great feeling to know that the long, warm summer days are on their way.
There are plenty of activities and events in Vancouver to enjoy during the springtime. One of the most popular is the blossoming of the cherry trees and its Cherry Blossom Festival. Vancouver has over 40,000 cherry trees across the city. Bike the Blossom on April 26th and enjoy a fun and guided tour of the cherry blossom in full bloom. You can also pay a visit to the VanDusen Botanical Garden where you can observe 24 varieties of cherry trees.
For you skiers and boarders out there, springtime can be bitter-sweet as it means the end of the season. However, the local mountains do their best to pay farewell in style! Whistler has the “World Ski & Snowboard Festival” from April 11-20 which is a 10-day free event of snow sports, music, arts and mountain life! Cypress holds the annual Bermuda Bank Slalom on April 19th while the last Winter Social Nights can be enjoyed on Grouse Mountain.
Spring is also time to refresh the wardrobe and discover the latest spring fashion. Robson street offers an array of choices for all tastes and wallets from the Spanish brand Zara to the upscale Armani.
With the longer days also comes the joy of outdoor patios. This year is particularly exciting as the City of Vancouver is extending its patio hours to midnight! Our restaurant, The Edge Social Grille & Lounge will soon be opening its own patio, the largest one on Granville Street, which is the perfect setting for people watching or for a drink with friends before a night on the town.
