Vancouver gets ready for Pride Parade 2014

It’s that time of the year again for Vancouver to celebrate PRIDE!

Vancouver’s earliest Pride celebration began in 1973 when the Gay Alliance Towards Equality (GATE) organized a picnic and art exhibit in Ceperley Park. The first Pride Parade dates back to 1978 and has evolved into one of Vancouver’s most vibrant summer festivals.

The parade is organized by the Vancouver Pride Society and this festival is a brilliant display of creativity, diversity and unity amongst the LGBT community. Vancouver’s Pride Festival is a summer event that you do not want to miss. For more details on the events taking place this week make sure to check out this week’s pride schedule.

With an expected 650,000 people to attend Sunday’s parade, it is more than tempting to join in on the fun. Here is the 2014 Vancouver Pride Parade route!

When: Sunday, August 3, 2014 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm

Where: The parade begins at Robson Street and Thurlow Street, heads west to Denman Street, follows Denman to Pacific Street and Beach Avenue and finishes at Sunset Beach Pride Festival and Market.

The Vancouver Pride Society has also introduced a Pride app to feed information on different events taking place around the city. Download the app and stay up to date with the latest happenings!

LOUD Business Association is an organization that has been set up to encourage the LGBT business owners and professionals to interact within the community. Our restaurant, The Edge Social Grille & Lounge will also be joining in by serving a delicious signature Pride cocktail during the Pride week which takes place from July 28th –August 3rd 2014. The Pride cocktail contains Absolut Raspberri Vodka, Limoncello, orange and pineapple juice topped with soda! We are located just one block away from the Davie Village, so be sure to stop by after the parade!

Helpful Tips to Enjoy Pride Parade

• Stay hydrated! The forecast calls for hot weather this week! So be sure to bring along lots of water to the parade!

• Practice sun safety by applying sunscreen and wearing a hat as this weekend will be a warm one!

Go early! Try to get to the parade venue early and grab yourself a great seat to catch the action.

• Download the Vancouver Pride Passport smartphone app to be in the loop.

Leave enough room for the parade. Stay on the side of the road and allow marchers to have enough room to pass along.

Don’t forget your camera! Remember to bring your camera and capture this lively event.

The Pride Parade in Vancouver is one of the most famous in the world. Attending can be a great way to show your support for the LGBT community, so be sure to join in on the fun!
