St. Patrick’s Day- Myths, Traditions & Facts

St. Patrick was a missionary way back in the 4th century who converted the Irish to Christianity. March 17th marks the death anniversary of the patron saint of Ireland. It was pronounced a Christian feast from the early 17th century by the Christian Church. The day commemorates St. Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland as well as celebrating the heritage and culture of the Irish!

St. Patrick’s Day is a very festive holiday. The Irish have observed this religious holiday for thousands of years. But, how did we come to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in North America? Since the late eighteenth century St Patrick’s day had evolved in North America to celebrate Irish culture in each community. It is normally celebrated with Irish festivals, parades, food, drinking and displays of the color green!

The 11th annual CelticFest is Vancouver‘s largest and most popular free event! After one week of jam-packed entertainment with music, dance and theatre. The CelticFest runs on it’s last day of the festival and it’s not too late to still experience the live Celtic music at festival pubs throughout Vancouver.

Gastown Festivities- Let the Kids have a little Irish Fun!

If you are looking for a great outing for your kids during March break head to Gastown-The Blarney Stone on March 17th. From 9am- 2pm your family will be able to experience everything from Irish and Scottish dancers to pipes, drums, face painting, balloon twisting and live Celtic music.
