Practically every nightclub and bar in Vancouver hosts a New Year’s Eve 2012 party for adults, but it can be difficult for families with kids to find events that the whole family can enjoy.

Luckily, this year there are five fabulous options for family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebrations in and around Vancouver, so even the littlest kid can welcome the New Year in style!

Free Party at Robson Square The Province is hosting a free, all-ages New Year’s Eve party at downtown Vancouver’s Robson Square. Not only can everyone skate for free at the outdoor Robson Square Ice Rink, there will also be live music, stilt walkers, sorcerers, witches, and a magician’s stage show, plus free glow sticks and noisemakers for kids during the early NYE countdown at 8pm.

New Year’s Eve Sleepover at the Vancouver Aquarium Families can ring in the New Year and celebrate the Vancouver Aquarium’s 25th anniversary at this special, all-night sleepover that includes kids’ activities and a chance to sleep with the Belugas!

Family First Night on Mount Seymour Mount Seymour’s Enquist SnowPlay Park hosts a special family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration from 6pm – 9pm on December 31 that includes tubing and tobogganing, live big band music, free s’mores and apple cider, and free party hats, sparklers and blowhorns for an early NYE countdown at 9pm.

Bright Nights at Stanley Park One of the best Vancouver holiday attractions for younger kids, Bright Nights transforms Stanley Park’s Miniature Train park into a winter wonderland of lights and live-action tableaux (thanks to the amazing performers of Mortal Coil). Open until 11pm on December 31.

Whistler First Night 2012 For a huge, family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration, head up to Whistler for First Night, a 100%-alcohol-free party that takes over the entire Whistler Village Square and Convention Centre.
