Get to know Bill Thompson

We invite you to meet our General Manager, Bill Thompson! Previously working with the hotel for 17 years and evolving into the role of Director of Operations, Bill is no stranger to the Best Western Plus Chateau Granville Hotel & Suites & Conference Centre!

Bill has worked as a management professional in the hospitality industry. He has over 20 years of progressive experience working for the Best Western Brand. He was also the General Manager of the Best Western Coquitlam inn before he took on his new role in our hotel. Bill has been engaged in several leadership roles in fast paced cities and has extensive experience in Front office management, Revenue Management, rooms divisions, operations and Food & Beverage. He has a proven record of strategic planning, improving operational efficiency, team building and project management.

Being a General Manager in a busy downtown Vancouver hotel, means adapting to an environment which requires quick and continual response to change. Bill is the perfect example of a “hands-on” professional who demonstrates the ability to lead with new levels of success.

As he pursues his current role as the General Manager for our award winning hotel, we asked him for few minutes of his busy day to get to know Bill Thompson a little better.

What do you think led you to reach the position you are in today?

One of the nice things about being in the hospitality industry for twenty-year’s, is that it gives one the ability to reflect back on the many great people who have shaped and influenced the path I have taken.

After several years in hotel operations, I was exposed to a variety of management styles, experience and talent. I believe that everyone has something to offer if you are looking to learn from them.

Therefore in conclusion to your question, I think my journey along this road was determined by hard work, belief, courage, learning from others and above all persistence!

What do you find most rewarding about the role?

Guest expectations do not change on a daily basis. I feel they always expect to receive great service. It is my responsibility to ensure the hotel runs at its optimum every single day to make sure each guest has a unique and memorable experience. Every day in a hotelier’s life can and will vary because of the complexity of dealing with so many factors. The world of hospitality is vibrant, lively, and there is never a dull day and this challenge is what I find rewarding.

How do you relax in your spare time?

I simply adore spending time with my family. As they grow up I have realized that I can’t get time back with them, so it’s best to make the most of it when you can!

What’s your favourite thing to do in Vancouver?

I love to walk around Vancouver and enjoy all the multi-culturalism our beautiful city has to offer.
